PAST PROJECTS

TOBACCO PREVENTION PROJECT

Funded by the San Mateo Department of Public Health, PBRC conducted a social survey on the use and access of tobacco amongst Filipino youth. PBRC conducted community education workshops and provided tobacco cessation services to pregnant women. 

ALLIANCE (AYA) ASIA YOUTH

​

​

AYA was a substance abuse prevention project funded by the Center of Substance Abuse Prevention to decrease the incidents of drug use amongst high-risk youth. 

YOUTH DEVELOPMENT AND LEADERSHIP PROGRAM

​

​

PBRC facilitated youth empowerment by supporting Filipino Youth leadership and development. PBRC established the LAKAS Kabataan at Estudyante (Empowered Youth and Students Group) in Daly City. It also provided support to the Sandigan ng Kabataan (Youth Council) at Balboa High School.

PEER LEADERSHIP ALTERNATIVE FOR YOUTH

PBRC provided a mentoring program education to prevent teen pregnancy.

CITIZENSHIP PROJECT

​

PBRC provided immigration services and workshops to displaced Airport Screeners and Immigrants residing in Northern San Mateo County. This project was funded by the Peninsula Community Foundation. 

COALITION WORK WITH FILIPINOS FOR AFFIRMATIVE ACTION

PBRC held naturalization classes. It has also conducted "Know Your Rights" workshops with Airport Screeners. PBRC has also set up voter registration drives. 

MISSION BORDER PROJECT

​

PBRC was engaged in the neighborhood and community development of the Mission Border. PBRC addressed the needs of the underserved residents of the neighborhoods along the Mission Street in Daly City by conducting resource mapping, needs assessments, community organizing, along with education and advocacy. This project was funded in part by the San Francisco Foundation. 

HEALTHY FILIPINO OUTREACH EDUCATION INTERVENTION

PBRC launched a community education program addressing dietary habits, blood pressure, blood cholesterol and physical activity. In conjunction, PBRC held a weekly community "Exercise for all ages" and housed a Senior Dance Group. 

FILIPINO MENTAL HEALTH INITIATIVE

​

The Filipino Mental Health Initiative is a community education project intended to help increase mental health service awareness in the Filipino Community. The purpose is to educate Filipinos and underserved members of the community about mental health services and the cultural issues that affect access and use of the mental health services. 

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT (CDBG)

Through the CDBG Program, PBRC was able to start the Tae Kwon Do class, Tagalog class, computer class, and continue the Senior Exercise Dance Group.

FREE LEGAL HELP CLINIC

​

When/Time:  Last Tuesday of every month (9:30AM to 12PM) and two times a year (6PM to 8PM)

 

PBRC works with API Legal consultation services through two monthly legal clinics. Clients seeking immigration assistance are served by bilingual, Tagalog and English speaking attorneys. 

 

Additionally, PBRC periodically hosts a free legal clinic with the Filipino Bar Association of Northern California.
